Job Specifics

Minimum Qualifications 30 semester credit hours, including 12 semester credit hours in fisheries, marine resources or wildlife management; mariculture; marine biology; aquaculture; aquatic; marine or terrestrial ecology; zoology; marine technology; botany; limnology; hydrology; or oceanography.

Duties Description Public Access/Land Management - Management activities to provide/enhance public access to lands administered by the Bureau of Wildlife. Responsibilities include assisting with: 1) daily operation of Cayuga/Tompkins Cooperative Hunting Area (e.g. hunter registration/reservations, daily check-in, and co-op patrol), 2) maintenance of Wildlife management Area (WMA) signage, 3) vegetation management activities and habitat improvement projects on WMAs.

Wildlife Management – Support for multiple Wildlife program activities. Responsibilities include assisting with: 1) survey and monitoring efforts, such as annual hunter-killed deer check, pheasant stocking, 2) collection/submission of samples for wildlife disease surveillance programs (e.g., Chronic Wasting Disease), and 3) wildlife damage management activities (e.g. providing public with technical support to help mitigate wildlife-related damage.

Communication and Information Transfer - Assisting with education and outreach efforts by responding to wildlife-related inquiries (phone calls, letters, e-mails, in-person) from members of the public.

Additional Comments Seasonal, hourly appointment currently funded through 3/16/2018. Program needs will determine actual termination date, which may be prior to 3/16/2018.
