Job Specifics

Minimum Qualifications Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications for the Fish and Wildlife Technician 1 position which are as follows: 30 semester credit hours, including 12 semester credit hours in fisheries; marine resources or wildlife management; mariculture; marine biology; aquaculture; aquatic, marine or terrestrial ecology; zoology; marine technology; botany; limnology; hydrology; or oceanography.

Duties Description From 4/1/2018 - 11/30/2018: Assist Public Use and Outreach Section in the coordination and implementation of I FISH NY fishing education and outreach events. Help maintain fishing equipment and provide instruction in basic fishing skills. Complete various GIS projects and data management assignments. Assist Inland Fisheries Section with various office and field tasks. Some evening and weekend work required.

From 12/1/2018 - 3/31/2019: Assist the Inland Fisheries and Public Use section with various data management and outreach needs, including data processing, GIS feature class development and web page improvements. Assist with coordination and implementation of fishing outreach events.

Additional Comments Must have valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position. Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions. Travel may be required. Overtime may be required. Weekends and holidays may be required.

Should be comfortable presenting information to groups of all ages. Experience in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Access, Excel, freshwater fishing and fishing/aquatic education preferred.

These are seasonal, hourly appointments. Program needs and funding will determine actual termination date, which may be prior to dates listed in duties description. Actual work schedule, duties, and travel requirements may vary and will be discussed at the interview.
