Job Specifics
Minimum Qualifications Permanent appointment:
Permanent service in this title or reachable on the appropriate Civil Service List; or one year of permanent competitive service in a title SG-16 or higher and otherwise eligible for transfer.
Provisional appointment:
A bachelor's degree including nine (9) semester credit hours in statistics, economics, econometrics, or research methods and two years of subsequent professional research experience in the collection and evaluation of quantitative data directed toward review and analysis of program operations. Candidates must also have at least three years of research experience in the field of criminal justice (a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice may be substituted for one year or a master’s degree in criminal justice may be substituted for two years of this experience).
Duties Description The Program Research Specialist 2 (CJ) will be assigned to the Office of Justice Research and Performance. The position will involve research and analysis required to operate and maintain a cost benefit tool used by New York State. The research and analyses performed will pertain to the State’s use of incarceration, supervision, and offender programming with a focus on recidivism. The project will require knowledge of, and coordination among, multiple criminal justice agencies. The incumbent will analyze data from a variety of sources related to the performance and costs of the adult criminal and juvenile justice systems in New York State.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience using SPSS software to manipulate data, and ability to succinctly summarize research findings in narrative form; strong analytical, writing, and communication skills; ability to work well in team settings, as this position involves extensive interaction with DCJS colleagues and other agencies.
