Job Specifics

Minimum Qualifications A Bachelor' s Degree, Associate' s Degree in Criminology, Criminal Justice, or Information Technology Systems. (Direct relevant experience may be substituted for the educational requirement).

OR

One (1) year of permanent State Police service at a Salary Grade 11or higher-level position.

Must have appropriate clerical skills, knowledge of Division policy and proper procedures.

Preference will be given to those candidates who have a working knowledge of MS Outlook, MS Access, E-Justice, SJS, RMS, Evidence.com, and other computer software.

Duties Description This position is responsible for the management, supervision andtraining of Body Worn Camera staff assigned to the Central RecordsBureau - BWC (Body Worn Camera) Unit. The Freedom of InformationLaw affords the public access to records maintained by the New YorkState Police.

DUTIES:

Supervise and train mid-level staff assigned to the Central Records Bureau - BWC Unit, including preparing annual performance appraisals and maintaining time and attendance records.

Review requests in need of response and approve the drafted letter to be released within five (5) days of receipt. Understand the specific laws and policy sections utilized which determines record releasability, including POL 66a and 87, CPL 160, 725, FCA 375 and 381, and categorize requests appropriately.

Perform searches using specialized programs (Evidence.com, SJS,RMS, CRS, E-Justice, CIAS and Tracs) and gather records to respond to FOIL requests. Review and redact body worn camera video as necessary.

Review records that have been compiled by lower-level staff, ensure all records have been collected and are ready to be reviewed by a supervisor. Resolves issues related to the preparation of responsive records.

Liaison with Troops, Details and Sections to identify and retrieve responsive records. Interacts with Division Counsel, County District Attorneys, and courts as well as the public regarding record requests.

Liaisons with other Central Records Bureau Units on records requests involving BWC records.

Provide input/feedback to enhance productivity within the unit.
Complies statistical data on unit activities.

Familiarize new employees with the proper procedures, policies, rules and regulations of the Division of State Police.

Develop and maintain a working knowledge of all office procedures and equipment.

Perform other duties and/or assignments as directed by a supervisor.
