Job Specifics
Minimum Qualifications Thirty (30) semester credit hours, including 12 semester credit hours in fisheries, marine resources or wildlife management; mariculture; marine biology; aquaculture; aquatic, marine or terrestrial ecology; zoology; marine technology; botany; limnology; hydrology; or oceanography. Must have valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position.
Preferred candidates have will have the ability to operate motorboats, tow trailers, and repair and maintain equipment. Good fish identification skills are important and prior fish sampling experience is a plus. Boating certification preferred, but not required. The incumbent will be required to complete a certification course within one month of the appointment.
Duties Description The technician will assist with brook trout management duties in Region 5, including remote brook trout pond surveys, water sample collection, regulation sign posting, fish barrier inspections and maintenance, and heritage strain brook trout egg collection efforts. The technician may be asked to assist with other fisheries related work in the region as needed. Scheduled work times may vary to facilitate accessing remote ponds in a timely fashion. Technicians will be expected to work 40 hours per week. Must work effectively both independently and as a team member. Must be willing to hike, paddle canoes and carry backpacks/equipment into remote locations of the Adirondack Park. The technician should be able to effectively communicate in a professional manner with anglers and the general public that may be encountered during field work.

Must be able to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds.
Typical work week will include both weekend days and two random week days. Hours will also be randomized to start in the AM and or finish in the PM. Typical day will be 10 hours, starting 30 after sunrise or ending 30 mins before sunset.
This is a seasonal, hourly appointment with an anticipated end date of 11/30/2024. Program needs and funding will determine actual termination date. Actual work schedule, duties and travel requirements may vary and will be discussed at the interview.
