Job Specifics

Minimum Qualifications Must have at least two years of experience as a Canal Worker 1 OR two years of satisfactory experience in motorized engine repair, such as auto and/or diesel engines.

Employees must possess a valid Class D driver’s license to operate a motor vehicle in NYS at the time of appointment & continuously maintain it thereafter or face possible disciplinary action up to & including termination.

Duties Description Maintenance Assistants Marine perform semi-skilled maintenance and repair of engines and equipment on floating plant vessels used to maintain channels of the State's Canal System. In addition, these positions operate or assist in operating vessels and land-based construction equipment pertaining to levee and embankment maintenance.

- Operates or assists in operating vessels assigned to the floating plant, as well as land-based equipment in floating plant operations.

- Operates, maintains, and assists with repairs on engines and all other associated machinery and equipment, including both routine maintenance such as fluid and oil changes, as well as complete overhauls of engines.

- May be assigned to function as a lead worker for a small work crew.
