Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• Anyone permanent in title.
• Any permanent employee who would meet eligibility requirements for a 70.1 transfer.
• NON-COMPETITIVE appointment may be considered.

NON-COMPETITIVE MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Senior Licensed Practical Nurse 1 Promotion: possession of a license and current registration as a Licensed Practical Nurse in New York State; and one year of service as a Licensed Practical Nurse.

Senior Licensed Practical Nurse 2 Promotion: possession of a license and current registration as a Licensed Practical Nurse in New York State; and one year of service as a Senior Licensed Practical Nurse 1.

Open Competitive: A license and current registration to practice as a practical nurse in New York State AND two years of experience providing nursing care and treatment services to individuals under the supervision of a registered nurse; assisting with the implementation of treatment plans; administering, observing, and recording medication management; educating and counseling individuals and families regarding illnesses, medications, tests, and treatment goals and procedures; monitoring and recording individuals progress; and supervising direct care staff.

Duties Description PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• The person in this position will be involved in the treatment of individuals. They would administer medications; perform tube feedings; provide colostomy care; observe individuals and report changes in their condition; perform other procedures as ordered by a physician etc.
• Function in the role of a Sr Licensed Practical Nurse 2 (or Sr LPN1), including supervisory duties as assigned.
• Function as Direct Support staff in providing support, including nursing to individuals within the SOIRA.
• Other duties as assigned.

Additional Comments FLEXTIME ALLOWED: Yes, within a 40-hour work week.

MANDATORY OVERTIME: Not routinely, and only to meet the needs of the individuals medical care, that can only be performed by a Nurse.

COMPRESSED WORKWEEK: Not routinely, on an as needed, case by case basis.

NY HELPS This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS). HELPS Program titles may be filled via a non-competitive appointment. This means that you do not need to take an exam to qualify, but you do need to meet the minimum qualifications of the title.
If you are hired under the HELPS Program, you will be first be appointed as a temporary employee. In May 2024, if you are performing successfully in the position, your appointment will be changed from temporary to permanent non-competitive. Once you are in permanent status, your official probationary period will begin, and you may take any promotion exam for which you are qualified. At a future date (within one year of permanent appointment), employees hired under NY HELPS are expected to have their permanent non-competitive employment status converted to permanent competitive status. You will not have to take an exam to gain permanent competitive status.

• If you are currently a New York State employee serving in a permanent competitive qualifying title and eligible for a transfer via Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law, you may be appointed to this title as a permanent competitive employee.

• For CSEA positions: Local Bidding Agreements will be honored.

• Preference will be given to OPWDD employees impacted by closures. If you are being impacted by closure, please indicate this on your resume.

• All OPWDD employees must be eligible and maintain eligibility for full and unconditional participation in the Medicare and Medicaid programs. Continued employment will depend on maintaining eligibility.
