Job Specifics

Minimum Qualifications No minimum qualifications per Civil Service.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
While some training is provided, a well-qualified candidate will have one of the following:
• 6 months to 1 year of experience in environmental education programming
• 6 months to 1 year of college study in natural science, natural resources, or environmental education.

Duties Description Under the direction of the Park Worker 3, the trail worker’s duties will include, but will not be limited to:
• Assisting with maintenance and the improvement of the 26-mile trail and its features.
• Addressing section-by-section issues on the trail with the goal of enhancing the quality of patron’s experience.
• Recognizing and resolving issues along the trail relating to landscaping, tree work, invasives remediation, vine and shrub pruning, trail widening, stone wall repair, washout and drainage improvements, litter removal, and other medium to heavy labor tasks.
• Operating and performing basic maintenance on a variety of mechanical equipment including mowers, trimmers, chainsaws, chippers, and powered vehicles.
• Performing semi-skilled maintenance and repair activities in a variety of trades, including carpentry, masonry, and trenching.
• Assisting in building or repairing roads, trails, and paths at the Old Croton Aqueduct.
• Assisting with maintenance and operations at other Regional State Park facilities in emergency situations as needed.
• Other related duties as required.

Additional Comments OPERATIONAL NEEDS:
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment.
• Must obtain Game of Logging certificate (levels 1 and 2) or approved equivalent within the probationary period or at the next class offering and complete any other training programs as instructed.
• Must have availability to work nights, weekends, and holidays based on operational needs and emergencies.
