Job Specifics
Minimum Qualifications Transfer:
Candidates must be permanent in the Mental Health Program Specialist 1, G-18, title and be eligible for lateral transfer; OR be eligible to transfer via Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law into the Mental Health Program Specialist 1 or Mental Health Program Specialist Trainee levels.
Non-Competitive Appointment:
Candidates must have a bachelor's degree in child and family studies, counseling and community psychology, creative arts therapy, criminal justice, health administration, hospital administration, marriage and family therapy, mental health counseling, nursing, psychoanalysis, psychology, public administration, public health, public policy, recreation therapy, rehabilitation counseling, social work, sociology, or special education and two years of professional clinical or administrative experience in a federal or state operated, licensed, certified, or funded mental health program.
A master's degree in child and family studies, counseling and community psychology, creative arts therapy, criminal justice, health administration, hospital administration, marriage and family therapy, mental health counseling, nursing, psychoanalysis, psychology, public administration, public health, public policy, recreation therapy, rehabilitation counseling, social work, sociology, or special education can substitute for one year of specialized experience.
Duties Description The Office of Mental Health is seeking a qualified candidate to fill a Mental Health Program Specialist 1, G-18, position in the Division of State Operated Children’s and Adult Services, Sustained Engagement Support Unit. The incumbent will work under general direction working with a team towards the goal of reducing disengagement of OHM adult clinics. Specific duties of the positions include, but are not limited to:
• Utilize available data, including MHARS, SFER, PSYCKES, RHIO and criminal justice databases to locate indivduals lost to contact; identify potential reasons for disengagement and risk factors; monitor connections with treatment providers and support services, including hospitalizations and emergency room visits.
• Collaborate with outpatient providers to ensure appropriate outreach is in place to reconnect individuals who are disengaging with mental health treatment;
• Initiate re-engagement efforts through telephonic outreach to individuals in the community who have disengaged from mental health treatment, eliciting barriers to engagement and supporting/facilitating resolution of such barriers, offering alternative treatment options.
• Facilitate linkage to alternative providers and confirm that successful connection to OHM or alternative provider has occurred.
• Utilize criminal justice databases to locate individuals who have disengaged or have been discharged from treatment and work with correctional facilities to re-engage individuals in treatment prior to release to the community.
• Participate in monthly facility calls, on site visits/meetings to promote positive relationships with state operated outpatient programs and staff, offer staff feedback related to SES protocols and client engagement barriers.
• Provide support with various special projects and OMH initiatives
