Minimum Qualifications Minimum Qualifications:

A bachelor’s degree and at least 3 years of full-time, professional experience in communications, writing, and/or press.
A master’s degree in a related field may substitute for one year of this experience.
A strong interest and knowledge of government and public policy highly desirable.

Duties Description The New York State Executive Chamber seeks a highly motivated individual to serve as a Deputy
Press Secretary. This individual will lead press and media strategy for an assigned portfolio of
agencies and special interests.


Duties:

Leads press and media correspondence pertaining to their assigned portfolio, including (but not limited to) responding to incoming inquiries, conducting reporter outreach, and identifying news opportunities.
Works closely with the Press Secretary, First Deputy Press Secretary, and Director of Press Operations to construct press strategies and messaging for programs and policies within their assigned portfolio.
Serves as press lead for all events pertaining to their assigned portfolio.
Ensures the accuracy and correctness of information released to and published by the media pertaining to their assigned portfolio.
Prepares press materials, including (but not limited to) releases, statements, responses to media inquiries, etc.
Collaborates directly with the Deputy Communications Directors assigned to relevant portfolios to assist in the development of communications strategies that further the Governor’s agenda.
Works directly with administration agencies and authorities within their assigned portfolio to develop press strategies for reporter outreach.
Performs research as needed, for preparations of press materials, briefings, and any other information to be disseminated to the public.
Works with Press Assistants to compile news clips and briefings for reports pertaining to their assigned portfolio.
Performs other duties as required.

Additional Comments Evening and weekend work will be required on a regular basis in addition to potential travel around New York State.
