Minimum Qualifications Open-Competitive:
Four years of experience in technician work in aeronautical, chemical, civil, electrical, environmental, mechanical, or sanitary engineering technology; environmental technology; geology or geology technology; or as a surveyor or a drafter;
OR graduation from high school and one year of qualifying experience;
OR graduation from a high school technical education program in aeronautics, architectural drafting, chemistry, electricity, electronics, mechanical design and construction, technical structural drafting and design, technical instrumentation and control systems, or computer circuitry;
OR 18 college semester credit hours in any combination of the following: engineering, geology, environmental science, natural or physical science, drafting, mathematics, or surveying.
Duties Description The primary responsibilities of the seasonal Environmental Engineering Technician 1 (EET1) with the Bureau of Air Quality Surveillance's Southern Monitoring Section will be to assist the Laboratory Equipment Designers and Engineers in the operation and maintenance of air monitoring equipment in the New York City Metropolitan area. The EET1 will work alongside other field operators and engineers in the routine testing and deployment of air monitoring equipment and will be responsible for independent operation and maintenance of various manual air monitoring samplers, ensuring the monitoring equipment meets the prescribed performance and collection efficiencies as well as the necessary quality assurance and quality control checks. This EET1 will aid field technicians in the implementation and operation of activities associated with special air monitoring projects and will assist in the repair and refurbishment of failed equipment and air monitoring site structures as well as the upkeep of air monitoring sites and surroundings.
The EET1 will be required to operate a State vehicle and will assist in the transportation and installation of air monitoring equipment and must be capable of physically moving air monitoring equipment and supplies as well as equipment enclosures.
Minimum Qualifications
(A) Completion of at least 18 semester credit hours in any combination of the following courses: engineering, such as civil, chemical, electrical, mechanical, aeronautical and/or sanitary; public health; environmental and/or engineering technology; drafting; mathematics; surveying; computer science; environmental science; and/or the natural and physical sciences; YOU MUST SUBMIT A LIST OF QUALIFYING COURSES WITH YOUR APPLICATION. Include the course title, number of semester credit hours per course, name of college or university and date (or expected date) of completion. OR
(B) graduation from a high school technical education program in technical aeronautics, technical architectural drafting and building construction, technical chemistry, industrial chemistry, technical electricity/electronics, technical mechanical design and construction, technical structural drafting and design or technical instrumentation and control systems, computer circuitry; OR
(C) Four years of experience performing engineering technician work in aeronautical, chemical, civil, electrical, environmental, mechanical, or sanitary engineering technology; or environmental technology; or as a surveyor or drafter.
Preferred Qualifications: Mechanical and electrical equipment repair experience and/or training.

Essential Functions:
Must be able to drive a truck or van and capable of loading and unloading vehicles.
Must be able to operate a computer and possess knowledge of required technical computer programs.
Must be able to lift and carry heavy equipment and climb ladders.
Additional Comments This is a hourly appointment currently funded through 3/31/2025, with a likelihood of continuing beyond that date. Program needs and funding will determine actual termination date.

Must have a valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position.
Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain.
Must be able to work in remote areas.
Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions.
