Job Specifics

Minimum Qualifications Candidates must have four years of full-time experience in a trade under a skilled tradesperson which would provide training equivalent to that given in a training, apprenticeship, or equivalent program; or an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of technical courses in skilled trades at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services.

Duties Description The Trades Generalist at Denny Farrell Riverbank State Park works as part of the operations and maintenance staff. Trades Generalists across the various trades have one responsibility in common and that is to perform a variety of skilled and semi-skilled maintenance, repair, installation and construction tasks in the mechanical, building, motor equipment and electrical trades. Incumbents must have a working knowledge of methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in their respective trades and be willing to learn new skills. Duties include:

• Work with other trade generalists and/or unskilled staff in preventative and corrective maintenance of the Park’s fleet of equipment including gators, push mowers, tractors, trucks, passenger vehicles.
• Complete repairs on various pieces of heavy equipment or small-engine devices.
• Plan and lay out projects, supervise, and train others as well as read and interpret plans.
• May be assigned to other duties including but not limited to direct facility maintenance, supervising lower-level staff, and operating various equipment for grounds maintenance.
• May be responsible for directing park operations in the absence of Park management.

Additional Comments OPERATING NEEDS:
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment.
• This position is 40 hours a week. Must be able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
• Must be able to read and interpret blueprints.
• Must be able to supervise others and to act independently with a minimum of supervision.
• Must have knowledge of standard safety practices.

DOWNSTATE ADJUSTMENT: $3,400
