Job Specifics

Minimum Qualifications Transfer: Candidates must be eligible to transfer via Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law by having at least one year permanent competitive service in a qualifying title within two salary grades of this position.

Non-Competitive Minimum Qualifications Under the NY HELPS Program:
Current registration with the Commission on Dietetics Registration (CDR) as a Registered Dietian (RD) or certification in Dietetics-Nutrition by the NYSED; and two years of post-registration/certification professional administrative experience in a food or nutrition program, one year of which must have been at a supervisory level.

Duties Description The Office of Mental Health (OMH) is recruiting to fill a Nutrition Service Administrator 1, SG-20, position at the Cook Chill Production Center (CCPC) located in Orangeburg, New York. CCPC produces wholesome food that meets the nutritional and budgetary needs of its customers, which include Office of Mental Health facilities, other state and government facilities, and non-profit agencies. Cook Chill is a system which prepares large quantities of food with an extended shelf life.

The Nutrition Services Administrator 1 position will be assigned to work in the Quality Assurance (QA) Unit, and will assist with developing, revising and maintaining standards to assure OMH clients are receiving safe and nutritious food. This position requires the incumbent to work in a refrigerated and sometimes wet work environment and involves extensive walking and some lifting. Some knowledge of product development, food science, and laboratory procedures are preferred.

Specific duties to be performed may include, but are not limited to, the following:

- Perform daily inspections of operations to ensure all CCPC food safety and quality standards are followed for every process daily, including USDA Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP), Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP’s), Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOP), and State and local regulations.
- Complete recipe analysis and lab assessments using computer software and databases.
- Develop policies, training protocols and maintain USDA records to assure food quality.
- Coordinate and conduct staff training programs and maintain staff training records.
- Prepare food products for quality reviews using various retherm systems.
- Perform Quality Control tasks at Cook Chill.
- Possible travel to other agencies to perform QA reviews, food demonstrations and training.
- Maintain and update specification sheets on all food and non-food products purchased.
- Confer with USDA Inspector on issues related to compliance with HACCP, SSOP and GMP’s.
- Monitor, update & develop Nutritional Labels in compliance with FDA label laws.
- Liasion between CCPC, OMH Facilites & outside customers.

Additional Comments This position is eligible for the Downstate Adjustment of $3,400 (included in job basics range).
