Minimum Qualifications The most qualified candidates will have:
•Legislative experience
•Strong writing, research, and oratory skills
•Preference for candidates with advanced degrees or equivalent work experience
•The ability to work flexible hours, including extensive nights and weekends during the legislative session
All candidates are expected to live and work in the Capital Region of New York.
Duties Description The New York State Senate is seeking applicants to fill two open positions for Policy Analyst for the Senate Majority Counsel's Office of Policy and Research. The incumbents, who report directly to the Director of Policy and Research, will be responsible for performing the following:
•Providing research, policy analysis, and central staff support for the Majority Conference
•Drafting memoranda analyzing policy initiatives and state legislation
•Preparing briefing materials in a wide range of policy areas for members of the Majority Conference
•Assisting Senators in preparation for Senate floor debates
•Drafting briefing books, white papers, and other research material on long-term legislation areas
•Working collaboratively with other members of the team when necessary
•Generating new ideas for potential legislation
•Other tasks that may be necessary in support of legislative and Majority Conference activity
Additional Comments Salary range is $55,000 to $65,000, commensurate with experience.
