Minimum Qualifications This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS).* To be considered for appointment through NY HELPS, or 55 b/c, candidates must meet the minimum qualifications for this position. The qualifications are:
Promotional: One year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service as an office assistant, clerical, or keyboarding title allocated to Grade 6 or higher. Qualifying titles are available at:

Open Competitive: One year of experience where most work time is spent performing activities related to mail receipt, mail distribution, storage, and/or stores keeping.
Candidates may also be qualified for permanent competitive appointment if reachable from the appropriate Civil Service eligible list or eligible for reassignment or transfer in accordance with Civil Service Law.
Duties Description Duties will include, but not be limited to:
• Scheduling of warehouse deliveries and shipping
• Preparing shipments which may include contacting shipping companies, bill of ladings, stacking and shrink wrapping of pallets
• Maintain shipping records
• Maintain warehouse inventory
• Management of forms/supplies
• Supervision of warehouse personnel
• Communicate with appropriate parties to resolve discrepancies and problems related to the warehouse
• Load, unload and physically handle equipment, furniture, supplies, etc. This may require the operation of forklifts, warehouse equipment, vans & trucks
• Interaction with department customers via telephone or email
The chosen candidate must have the ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions, to routinely lift and/or carry heavy items and the ability to routinely reach, bend, stand and walk for long periods of time, and be committed to a safe work environment.
Responsibilities may include serving a role within the Incident Command System to support the department’s response to regional and statewide emergency situations.
Additional Comments *This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS). For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title may be filled via a non-competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply.
At a future date (within one year of permanent appointment), it is expected employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to compete in an examination. Employees will then be afforded with all of the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State. While serving permanently in a NY HELPS title, employees may take part in any promotion examination for which they are qualified.
