Minimum Qualifications •Strong writing and oratory skills are required.
•All candidates are expected to live and work in the Capital Region of New York.
•Preference will be given for candidates with demonstrated legislative experience in the above referenced subject matters.
•Candidates who possess a Juris Doctor and candidates possessing similar relevant experience and educational achievement may be alternatively considered for the title of Associate Counsel on a case-by-case basis.
Duties Description The New York State Senate is seeking applicants to fill the position of Associate Counsel for the Senate Majority Counsel’s Office. The position of Associate Counsel or Policy Analyst is responsible for performing the following duties:
•Providing legal, policy and budget analysis, and central staff support, for the Senate Majority Conference on matters referred to one or several standing committees; Particular emphasis will be placed on knowledge and experience within Local Governments including general municipal law knowledge and/or experience;
•Tracking related legislation active in the state Assembly;
•Making oral presentations regarding relevant bills under consideration by the state Legislature;
•Drafting memoranda analyzing policy initiatives and state legislation;
•Preparing briefing materials in their respective standing committees for members of the Conference;
•Assisting Senators in preparation for public hearings, roundtable discussions, forums, and other public meetings and events; and
•Networking with relevant advocacy and constituency groups.
Additional Comments The salary range for this position is $65,000-$75,000, commensurate with experience and education.
