Job Specifics

Duties Description NATURE OF WORK & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Oversee, direct and manage the Nursing Department. Developing and adhering to nursing departments budget, providing quality care to patients while meeting all applicable laws and regulations, overseeing the departments day-to-day activities (nursing practice, policy and procedure implementation, staffing, recruitment, staff development, staff progressive discipline, research, etc.), and collaborating with clinical facility leaders to provide excellent patient services. Oversee and direct the Respiratory, Ultrasound, Employee Health and Infection Prevention Departments. Serves on the Executive Team and participates as a member of the Hospital’s administrative committees to include, but not limited to, Medical Exec, HQM, Patient Experience, Strategic Planning, Utilization Review and other duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications OC Minimum Qualifications:
Possession of a license and current registration as a registered professional nurse in New York State; a bachelor's degree in nursing; and three years of post-licensure professional clinical nursing experience in an acute care hospital or acute physical rehabilitation hospital. Two years of the experience must have been at a managerial level.

Minimum Qualifications Substitution:
A master’s degree in nursing can substitute for one year of non-managerial post-licensure clinical nursing experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS/COMPETENCIES:
Doctorate degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, or a related field. Five years of nursing experience in acute rehabilitation or acute hospital setting. Three years of nursing leadership or management experience. Proven track record of improving patient outcomes and staff performance in a hospital setting. Strong knowledge of CMS regulations and Joint Commission standards. Expertise in developing and managing nursing programs, including staffing, budgeting and resource allocation. Demonstrated ability to lead interdisciplinary teams effectively. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Excellent interpersonal, communication, and conflict resolution abilities. Experience implementing evidence-based practices and fostering a culture of excellence in patient care. Proven ability to mentor and develop nursing staff for career growth. Visionary leader who can align departmental goals and organizational objectives.

Additional Comments This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS).

For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title maybe filled via a non-competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply.

At a future date (within one year of permanent appointment), it is expected employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to compete in an examination. Employees will then be afforded with all of the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State. While serving permanently in a NY HELPS title, employees may take part in any promotion examination for which they are qualified.
