Job Specifics

Duties Description The duties of this position include:

1. Assist with freshwater fisheries management program in Region 1.
Assist with fish population and fish habitat investigations
Conduct angler surveys
Assists Regional Biologists with data entry and analysis
Maintain and pack equipment for fisheries surveys
Assist with invasive species management projects
Conduct surveys for threatened and endangered species

2. Public outreach and coordination with constituents
Communicate with various interested parties concerning fisheries issues
Provide information on fishing opportunity
Assist with aquatic resource education programs
Create event flyers, write summaries, answer phones, mailings

3. Promote public access for fishing
Exploring public access opportunities
Oversee the maintenance of existing access facilities

Minimum Qualifications 30 semester credit hours, including 12 semester credit hours in fisheries; marine resources or wildlife management; mariculture; marine biology; aquaculture; aquatic, marine or terrestrial ecology; zoology; marine technology; botany; limnology; hydrology; or oceanography

Preferred Qualifications: NYS boating safety certificate; CPR/AED training; proficiency in MS Access, GIS, and R; experience
operating and trailering boats; experience in data entry; excellent communication skills and excellent attention to detail.

Additional Comments This is a seasonal, hourly appointment with an anticipated end date of 11/30/2025. Program needs and funding will determine actual termination date.

Actual work schedule, duties and travel requirements may vary and will be discussed at the interview.

Must have a valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position.
Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain.
Must be able to work in remote areas.
Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions.
Travel may be required.
Weekends and holidays may be required.
Must be able to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds.
Must be comfortable in and around water.
