Job Specifics

Duties Description The NYS Digital Services team at the Office of General Services (OGS) is seeking a creative Web Solutions Specialist, with a specialization in front-end development. The Public Information Specialist 1 (Digital Content) will function as a Web Solutions Specialist supporting digital projects and the ny.gov and governor.ny.gov portfolio of websites, applications, and digital communications tools.

The Web Solutions Specialist will work on a variety of digital products that help to connect New York State residents to critical services and will seek to measure and improve customer-facing digital interactions with government agencies.

The NYS Digital Services is a team of strategists, product managers and technologists working with agencies to streamline and improve the digital experience across New York State. We strive to create a community that works together to provide programs and services to New Yorkers in an efficient and user-friendly way.

• Contribute to the full digital product lifecycle, from business analysis to technical solution and implementation.
• Collaborate with the Solutions Director to research, propose, and evaluate web solutions.
• Code, edit, enhance, and troubleshoot websites and tools in the NYS Digital Service portfolio (e.g., ny.gov, governor.ny.gov, 988.ny.gov, infrastructure.ny.gov).
• Write front-end code for a variety of digital products, including websites, applications, and SaaS products.
• Partner with project management to align timelines and resources with project scope and business needs.
• Work with state/vendor engineering teams to implement or resolve issues with production code.
• Collaborate with product leaders, designers, and developers to launch digital products.
• Build simple tech solutions, adapt libraries, and contribute to the NYS Web Design System and NYS Digital Service Utilities Library.
• Commit and review code in NYS Digital Service or NYS ITS GitHub repositories.
• Write and review tickets in AGILE tools, and actively participate in sprint planning, retrospectives, and demos.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Operational Needs:
This position may require routine evening and weekend work, as well as some travel on occasion between NYC and Albany.

Minimum Qualifications Six years of experience* in public relations, social media, and digital communications.

*Substitutions: A degree in Communications, English, Public Relations, Social Media, Digital Communications, or a similar degree may substitute for experience as follows:
• Associates degree: Two years of required experience
• Bachelor’s degree: Four years of required experience
• Master’s degree: Five years of required experience

Preferred Qualifications:
The preferred candidate will bring a passion for the open web, creative technical problem solving, and a desire to learn and grow while building technology that helps real people.
• Proficient in core web languages: HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
• Strong portfolio showcasing web development and solutions work.
• Eager to explore new web technologies and innovative problem-solving approaches.
• Excellent communication skills, translating complex technical issues into clear, actionable language for non-technical stakeholders.
• Experienced with AGILE tools like Atlassian JIRA, GitHub Projects, Azure DevOps, or similar.
• In-depth knowledge of modern web browsers, web content management systems, static-site generators, and traditional web development.
• Familiar with web accessibility standards (WCAG 2.0/2.1/2.2, Section 508)
• The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of modern web development, a passion for learning new technologies, and strong problem-solving skills to implement innovative solutions.
