Job Specifics

Duties Description Will be responsible for enforcing building regulations; maintaining order and directing visitors in State facilities; will be doing foot patrols of facilities and their environs; will manage access to buildings and offices; assist the sick, injured, or persons with disabilities; submit accident, incident, and daily activity reports; and secure windows and doors. Maintain a roster of individuals entering or leaving the buildings during prescribed hours, monitor and maintain building access and security equipment, examine building exteriors for vandalism or intruders, report building deficiencies, inspect and service firefighting equipment, assist in building evacuation, and notify the police when appropriate. May be required to accept mail delivered by courier. Must be able to stand and walk for long periods of time and climb stairs. Appointees may be required to work various shifts, as well as unscheduled and mandatory overtime when necessary. Will be required to drive a motor vehicle; must possess a valid license to operate a motor vehicle in New York State at the time of appointment and continuously thereafter.

Minimum Qualifications HELPS: Candidates from outside or within State Service can be considered for hire under the Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement – Statewide (HELPS) program as a Security Services Assistant 1, if they have a Registration as a Security Guard by the NYS Department of State.

Transfers: Current New York State employee with one or more years of permanent, contingent-permanent, or 55 b/c service that is eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law to Security Services Assistant 1.


Preferred Qualifications: Must hold a current New York State Security Guard license, must meet established physical and medical requirements for position, and may be required to undergo periodic medical examinations to reassess your ability to perform the essential duties of the position. Will independently patrol and monitor the facility for the safety of our staff, residents, and visitors.

Additional Comments Pass days for week 1 are Thursday/Monday, and pass days for week 2 are Saturday/Sunday.

The posted salary range ($44,169 - $53,919) includes $4,000 of downstate adjustment.

This position is part of the NYS HELPS program. No examination is required.
