Job Specifics

Duties Description Must reports to work on time, with badge identification. Adheres to schedule, vacation, sick time, and call-in policy. Signs in accurately. Models’ professionalism.

Designs medication ordering and delivery processing procedures to best serve facility and residents in a timely and cost-effective manner.

Responsible for the gathering, compilation, and preparation of data from Consultant Pharmacist for Drug Regimen Review for Medical Providers and Director of Nursing.

Responds to questions concerning the operation of the MDC program from both internal and external sources.

Coordinates medication ordering and delivery with providing pharmacy and Nursing Department.

Responds to resolve issues with Pharmacy and/or Nursing Department regarding medication ordering and delivery.

Works with Interdisciplinary Care Team (ICT) to monitor and track polypharmacy and gradual dose reductions (GDR) at weekly Medication Management Meeting.

Reviews new admission medication lists to ensure medications are available and cost effective.

In consultation with Consultant Pharmacist, Medical Providers, Director of Nursing, Administrator, and Admissions Team, works to find alternative and appropriate options to overly costly medications.

Ensures that inventory standards for medicines, solutions, supplies, and equipment are maintained to meeting nursing care needs.

Coordinates arrangements for meetings between Pharmacy and Nursing Department.

Monitors, tracks, orders, and accepts delivery for all resident medications.

Run and review medication reports for medical providers as required

Attends mandatory educational programs. Remains current with facility in-service requirements.

Is knowledgeable in fire and disaster preparedness procedures.

Provides back up support for Nursing Office Assistant 2 (OA2) within the Nursing Department. Supervises Nursing Schedule and two Nursing Schedulers to always ensure adequate staffing on all units.

Assists the LPN staff to ensure correct processes are followed when reordering medications, removing medications from the Nexys, and returning unused medications to facility pharmacy.

Minimum Qualifications Reassignment: Current eligible New York State Department of Health employee with permanent or contingent permanent status as an Office Assistant 2.

Transfers: Current New York State employee with one or more years of permanent, contingent-permanent, or 55 b/c service in a position eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law to Office Assistant 2. Promotion Provisional Appointment: In the absence of an eligible list with three or more candidates willing to accept a position, a temporary provisional appointment may be considered. For provisional appointment, candidates must meet one of the following minimum qualifications: Be a current NYS Department of Health employee with one year as an office assistant, clerical, or keyboarding title allocated to Grade 6 or higher. Open Competitive HELPS qualifications: If less than three interested and qualified New York State Department of Health employees serving in the direct-line, lower-level title(s) within the agency apply to this opportunity, the agency may make a non-competitive appointment under the NY HELPS program: One year of clerical experience.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience working in a fast-paced environment managing multiple tasks that effect critical care Nursing concerns. Experience relating to Pharmacy Tech responsibilities, which will be incorporated in this Nursing OA2 role.

Additional Comments This position is designated for the Nursing Department and will directly perform the difficult or complicated clerical processing and office support work for which substantive knowledge of the Medication Distribution Center (MDC) program area is required.

To be eligible, candidates must be an employee of the Department of Health with one year as an office assistant, clerical, or keyboarding title allocated to Grade 6 or higher.
