Job Specifics

Duties Description Under the supervision of a State Police Security Specialist 3, incumbents will perform the following tasks and activities:

DUTIES

Operates the Capital radio network and all telephone equipment; ensures compliance with Federal Communications Commission (FCC) rules and regulations.

Controls based, fixed, and mobile communications by operating all radio and telephone equipment, including the 911 system; maintains the status and control over all mobile units and responds to operators with information on emergencies.

Monitors and maintains radio equipment in the dispatch area by performing periodic tests.

Operates radio, telephone, and broadcast equipment, closed-circuit television systems, and electronic security systems.

Monitors, activates, deactivates, and controls electronic access systems.

Enters, updates, and queries information in various computers and systems.

Retrieves and reviews messages received from data systems and stores or distributes them according to prescribed procedures.

Maintains blotter, radio log, and daily reports that detail specific information regarding police and security activities.

Submits various daily reports to the communications supervisor for review

Maintains communications files and performs other communication-related duties as required by the shift supervisor.

May supervise and perform all duties of State Police Security Specialist 1.

Minimum Qualifications Six months of service as a State Police Security Specialist 1, SG-8;

OR

One year of full-time experience as a dispatcher for a public safety agency including fire departments, emergency medical services, or law enforcement;

OR

One year of active U.S. military service as a dispatcher of military police or security personnel and an honorable discharge or under conditions in the NYS Restoration of Honor Act;

OR

Have Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) certification.

Minimum qualifications must be met by the closing date of the posting.
