Job Specifics

Duties Description Under the supervision of a higher-level supervisor or Park Management, the Park & Recreation Aide:
• Performs general park and facility maintenance, customer service, and program support.
• Will be assigned to opening or closing shift of park operations.
• Maintains the park and facilities to ensure a clean and safe environment, which includes maintenance, sanitizing of various facilities, and trash or debris removal.
• Receives training to utilize a variety of hand and power-driven mechanical equipment such as mowers, blowers, and line trimmers etc.
• Interact with patrons to resolve questions as needed, disseminate information, and provide excellent customer service.
• Patrol the park grounds on foot or in a state vehicle as assigned to maintain a safe and secure presence, report conditions and enforce park rules.
• Supports park programming including staffing, set-up and break-down for all events.

Minimum Qualifications NO MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR THIS TITLE PER CIVIL SERVICE.

Additional Comments OPERATIONAL NEEDS:
• Must be able to perform medium to heavy physical labor; must be able to lift at least 30 pounds.
• Must have the ability to effectively communicate with park patrons and community or program partners.
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment. If not licensed at the time of appointment, the appointee must obtain a driver’s license without restrictions or conditions within a year of appointment.
• Must possess ability to operate and perform routine maintenance on a variety of power-driven mechanical equipment including trucks, mowers, and line trimmers.
• Must be willing to work outdoors year-round and in all weather conditions.
• Must be available to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• May be required to report to other facilities throughout the NYC Region on an as-needed basis.
