Job Specifics
Duties Description The Clinical Physician 2 Physiatrist provides comprehensive management and oversight for patients in the acute rehabilitation program. The Physiatrist will actively manage care of patients within their care, interact with staff and lead the care team to maximize recovery of patients. The Physiatrist will be expected to participate in quality improvement projects to foster continuous individual and facility growth. Helen Hayes Hospital is a teaching institution and mentoring of PMR residents is expected.
Minimum Qualifications Transfers: Current New York State employee with one or more years of permanent, contingent-permanent, or 55 b/c service
in a position allocated to Grade 34 or above, and that is eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law to Clinical Physician 2.
Open Competitive HELPS Minimum Qualifications:
Possession of a license and current registration to practice medicine in New York State and two years of post-licensure medical experience.
Promotion Provisional Appointment: In the absence of an eligible list with three or more candidates willing to accept a position, a temporary provisional appointment may be considered. For provisional appointment, candidates must meet one of the minimum qualifications: Be a current NYS employee with one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service as a Clinical Physician 1 and possession of a license and current registration to practice medicine in New York State.
Preferred Qualifications: Doctor of Medicine (MD) or doctor of Osteopathy (DO) from an accredited institution preferred. Board Certified or Board Eligible in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. Hold an active and unrestricted NY State medical license. Current DEA registration, Basic Life Support (BLS), and Advance Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifications. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in interdisciplinary care teams focused on patient recovery and functional improvement. Ability to participate in family conferences and patient/resident family education regarding goals of care. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to foster collaboration across disciplines. Commitment to patient-centered care and high-quality clinical outcomes. Participation in quality improvement, utilization review, and clinical documentation integrity initiatives. Willingness to mentor mid-level providers, residents, or students. Familiar with electronic health record (EHR) systems. Engagement in evidence-based practice and performance improvement projects. Interest in program development and rehabilitation outcome research.

Non-Competitive Promotion: If there are three or fewer qualified candidates interested in the appointment to this position, a permanent appointment may be made pursuant to Section 52.7 of the Civil Service Law. To be eligible, candidates must be an employee of the Department of Health Helen Hayes Hospital and have one year of permanent competitive service as a Clinical Physician 1, and possession of a license and current registration to practice medicine in New York State.
Posted salary range includes statutory hiring rate at the job rate for PS&T Grade 36 ($247,006 to $247,006), and geographic pay differential of $40,000, plus a downstate adjustment of $4,000.
