Job Specifics
Duties Description The State University of New York at Old Westbury is accepting applications for a tenure-track faculty appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor of English, with expertise in Multi-ethnic Literatures of the United States or Britain, to commence Fall 2026. The candidate must have a doctorate in English with a specialization in Queer Studies, ability to teach early American or British literature, and strengths in teaching English Composition. Additional teaching in general American or British Literature desirable. Must be student centered with strong service orientation.
Teaching load is three courses per semester and will include intermediate and upper-level literature courses and English Composition with opportunities to teach graduate-level literature courses. Professional responsibilities include consistently good teaching, scholarly activities (especially peer-reviewed publications), student advisement, and college and departmental service.
Minimum Qualifications Minimum Requirements:
Doctorate or Ph.D. degree in English with expertise in Multi-ethnic Literatures of the United States or Britain and a specialization in Queer Studies (required at time of application).
Ability to teach early American or British literature.
Experience teaching English Composition.
College teaching experience.
Experience teaching in an online environment.
Experience teaching a culturally diverse student population.
Preferred Requirements:
Experience teaching general American or British Literature.
Experience advising or coordinating student organizations and programs.
Experience teaching graduate level courses.
Experience with and commitment to supporting underrepresented, first-generation, and non-traditional students.
