Job Specifics

Duties Description The New York State Office of Information Technology Services (ITS) provides operational support 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days of the year, supporting more than 4,900 applications for 53 New York State Agencies.

Under the direction of a higher level Information Technology Manager within the Dedicated Support, Department of Transportation (DOT), Transportation System Management and Operations (TSMO) Technology Team, the Information Technology Specialist 2-Hourly (ITS 2-Hrly) will function as a Junior Solution Architect, focusing on the integration of Operational Technology (OT) and Information Technology (IT) systems, supporting the design and implementation of solutions that enhance efficiency, security, and data utilization across the organization’s industrial operations. The ideal candidate will be motivated and detail-oriented, have a foundational understanding of both IT and OT environments, and have a strong desire to learn and grow in the field of industrial automation and digital transformation.

Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Assist senior architects in designing and documenting integrated IT/OT solutions.
• Participate in requirements gathering sessions with technical and non-technical stakeholders from both Business, IT and OT departments.
• Support the development of technical specifications and architectural diagrams for new systems and upgrades.
• Support the development of specifications, implementation guides, and operational support (SOP, SLA, SLO).
• Research and evaluate new technologies and solutions relevant to IT/OT convergence.
• Contribute to the implementation and testing of integrated solutions, ensuring alignment with architectural standards.
• Help identify and document potential risks and vulnerabilities in IT/OT environments.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including IT infrastructure, cybersecurity, engineering, and operations.
• Assist in troubleshooting and resolving issues related to IT/OT integration.
• Maintain documentation for IT/OT architectures, standards, and best practices.
• Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies in IT/OT convergence.

Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Promotion: One year of permanent service as an Information Technology Specialist 1, Grade 14.

Open Competitive: A bachelor's or higher-level degree including or supplemented by 15 semester credit hours in computer science; or a bachelor's or higher-level degree in any field and one year of experience in information technology; or 60 semester credit hours including or supplemented by 15 semester credit hours in computer science and one year of professional experience in information technology; or two years of professional experience in information technology.

Preferred Qualifications
o 0-3 years of IT experience, with a portion focused on solution architecture, and system design
• Foundational understanding of IT concepts such as networking (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP)
• Basic understanding of OT concepts
• Familiarity with cybersecurity principles and best practices, particularly as they apply to IT/OT environments
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Eagerness to learn and adapt to new technologies and challenges

• Appointment to this position and continued employment with the agency is contingent upon obtaining and/or maintaining New York State residency within six months of hiring.
• Appointment to this position is not final until all agency approvals have been granted.
