Job Specifics

Duties Description Under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor 2, SG-17 or designee, the selected candidate’s duties will include, but not be limited to:
• Perform journey-level carpentry work and tasks/projects involving carpentry, woodworking, and general construction.
• Travel in park vehicles to other facilities within the Palisades Interstate Park Region (PIPC) for work assignments.
• Plan and layout work, including ordering materials and equipment.
• Complete routine carpentry and repairs, including finish work.
• Perform restoration work on historic buildings, ensuring retention of the original historic fabric.
• Monitor and train crews in routine carpentry skills and safety practices.
• Supervise crews on various projects.
• Read blueprints and project plans; supply rough sketches for work to be performed.
• Possess a working knowledge of modern code compliance.
• Install and adjust door and building hardware as required.
• Operate and maintain various types of woodworking equipment for accurate and safe operation.
• Erects and utilizes scaffolding or ladders as needed.
• Adhere to all applicable safety regulations and use proper personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Apply knowledge of various forms of finish applications and proper techniques for varnishes, stains, etc.
• Utilize experience in design, construction, finishing, and repair of furniture.

Minimum Qualifications Four years of full-time experience in carpentry work under a skilled tradesperson which would provide training equivalent to that given in a training, apprenticeship, or equivalent program, or an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of technical courses in carpentry at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services; OR successful completion of the two-year Trades Specialist (Carpenter) traineeship or a two-year carpenter training, apprenticeship, OR equivalent program* such as the New York State Civil Service Employees Association Partnership Applied Skilled Trades Traineeship and Certificate Program.

* Successful completion of the traineeship and the training program includes a total of 288 hours of trade-specific classroom instruction, 45 hours of technical math course work, 45 hours of technical communications course work, and 15 hours of blueprint/schematic reading course work. Course work must be completed with an average of “C” or better. Additionally, successful completion of the traineeship also includes 4,000 hours of on-the-job training.

*If verifiable, we will accept and prorate appropriate part-time and volunteer experience.


Additional Comments OPERATIONAL NEEDS:
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment.
• Must be qualified and medically cleared to wear a respirator and adhere to safe working practices.
• Must be certified as a scaffold competent person or obtain training and certification within one year of appointment as a term and condition of employment.

LOCATION PAY
The hiring rate will be the sum of the statutory hiring rate for CSEA Grade 12 ($50,425) and the Downstate Adjustment ($4,000). The job rate will be the sum of the statutory job rate ($61,548) and the Downstate Adjustment ($4,000).
