Job Specifics

Duties Description The Director of Procurement Strategy and Portfolio Management will oversee, from a strategic and forward-looking perspective, all components of SUNY's system-wide procurement portfolio. The successful incumbent will serve as a strategic leader responsible for aiding in transforming how SUNY System Administration, in collaboration with campuses, approaches procurement. This role will drive the transition from decentralized procurement practices to a coordinated, targeted, data informed, and strategically aligned procurement model.

This role will build collaborative relationships with campus procurement leaders and work in close partnership to identify and coordinate those procurement opportunities that will leverage the collective buying power of SUNY system and its campuses. By fostering collaboration, aligning category specific strategies, and promoting share accountability, this role is intended to unlock system-wide value that campuses do not currently have the leverage to achieve independently.

The Director of Procurement Strategy and Portfolio Management role integrates data, processes, and performance insights to create transparency and measurable impact across all procurement initiatives. Through disciplined portfolio category management, cross-campus engagement, and innovative sourcing strategies, this role will aid in reshaping procurement into a strategic system-wide function that delivers enhanced value, operational efficiency, and long-term financial benefit for SUNY and its campuses.

- Portfolio Oversight: Manage system-wide procurement portfolio governance and prioritization.
- Identify and coordinate additional procurement category opportunities through campus engagement and data integration.

- Governance Coordination: Lead portfolio reviews with leadership and campus stakeholders.
- Process Standardization: Develop and maintain templates, dashboards, and tracking tools.
- Risk Management: Identify spend or supplier risks and recommend mitigation strategies.
- Capability Building: Train teams on portfolio management tools and processes.
- Strategic Reporting: Produce executive reports highlighting portfolio insights and outcomes.

Minimum Qualifications Requirements:

- Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Business, Finance, or Supply Chain.
- Experience: 6-10 years in portfolio or procurement management.
- Certifications: PMP, Lean Six Sigma, or supply chain certification preferred.
- Analytical Rigor: Strong command of spend analysis and performance reporting.
- Governance Design: Experience structuring portfolio review and decision-making frameworks.
- Collaboration: Skilled at working across departments and institutions.
- Technical Proficiency: Advanced Excel, data visualization, and eProcurement tools.
- Project Management: Ability to coordinate multiple strategic initiatives.
- Change Management: Supports cultural adoption of new processes and systems.
- Communication: Executive-level reporting and facilitation skills.
- Strategic Insight: Ability to connect operational data with SUNY's financial goals.
