Job Specifics
Duties Description Under the supervision of the Interpretive Program Assistant, SG-17, and in cooperation with the Horticultural Technician 2, SG-12, the Parks and Recreation Aide 2 (Outdoor Education Assistant) will be responsible for performing the follow duties, including but not limited to:
• Maintain the site’s educational vegetable garden including planning, planting, weeding, harvesting, and general maintenance.
• Conduct school and community programs.
• Assist with design, implementation, budgeting, and tracking data for new and existing outdoor garden-based programs.
• Coordinate with various program partners, including schools.
• Prepare, order, maintain, and organize materials for programs.
• Coordinate food donation program including scheduling volunteers, harvesting, packing, delivering, and tracking weekly food donations to food banks in Columbia and Greene Counties.
• Develop comprehensive knowledge of the site and its trails to effectively conduct tours, lead hikes, assist patrons, and support onsite programs.

Additional Comments OPERATIONAL NEEDS:
• Must have the ability to work with children.
• Must be able to perform light to medium physical labor.
• Must be able to complete physical gardening tasks, including planting, weeding, and harvesting.
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment.
• Must have the ability to communicate effectively with other staff and park patrons.
• Must possess experience with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• One year of experience in agriculture, horticulture, or environmental education. One year of relevant college courses can be substituted.
