Job Specifics
Duties Description Under the direct supervision of higher-level personnel, this Park Worker 3 will perform the following tasks which include, but are not limited to the following:
• Operate high-volume printing machines, including digital and stencil duplicators, while utilizing Fiery and DocuSP print controllers to complete print jobs required to support Long Island State Parks operations and events.
• Collect, review, and maintain an accurate log of all print jobs, which include maps, brochures, NCR forms, envelopes, posters, flyers, and booklets.
• Review printed products for accuracy, color, and readability, ensuring high-quality output. Edit files as necessary using various design platforms.
• Handle post-press work, including cutting and trimming paper, binding, folding, glueing, and laminating.
• Daily interaction with upper-level management, facility managers, department heads, etc. to ensure the quality of printing for their facilities.
• Perform various maintenance tasks to maintain both the inside and outside of the Print Shop building, including janitorial services like cleaning the bathroom, sweeping and mopping floors throughout the building, cleaning windows, garbage removal, littler pick up, and snow removal.
• Conducts inspections of assigned work area, identify building maintenance needs, alert supervisor, and when needed complete and submit Work Order Requests and follow up to ensure they are completed in a timely manner.
• Responsible for conducting regular service of equipment and machinery to ensure all are functioning properly, which includes cleaning machines, changing toner/ink, basic calibration, and troubleshooting minor equipment issues.
• Coordinate directly with manufacturers regarding service and supplies for equipment in the Print Shop.
• Train lower-level staff on operating printing equipment and completing print jobs.
• Operate and be trained on additional, or upgraded, equipment to support the needs of the Print Shop.
• Purchase supplies and materials using the appropriate NYS Purchasing Guidelines and maintain an accurate inventory.
• Support the Regional Recreation Department during special events/projects, including day of event setup and breakdown.
• Communicate effectively with other staff and park patrons in a respectful and polite manner.
• Comprehend written material and carry out tasks given by verbal instructions.
• Perform other park-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications One year of experience in the operation and/or maintenance of a park, historic site, golf course, or recreational facility;
OR - One year of experience in any of the following fields:
• Law enforcement or security
• Firefighting
• Emergency Medical Services
• Environmental education or stewardship
• Natural resources management (e.g., forest management, wildlife management/preservation)
• Historic preservation or interpretation
• Landscaping or grounds maintenance
OR - One year of military service in any branch of the United States Armed Forces;
OR - Thirty (30) semester credit hours of college-level coursework from an accredited college or university*;
OR - Completion of a two-year technical/trades school program;
OR - Two years of experience as a trade assistant working under the direct supervision of a skilled tradesperson.
*Your degree must have been awarded by a college or university accredited by a regional, national, or specialized agency recognized as an accrediting agency by the U.S. Department of Education/U.S. Secretary of Education. Reassignment Qualifications:
Current NYS Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation Employees only, with at least one year of permanent or contingent-permanent qualifying service as a Park Worker 3.
Additional Comments OPERATING NEEDS:
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license that allows the candidate to operate a vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment.
• Ability to adhere to traffic laws and company policies, often monitored by GPS/telematics.
• Ability to lift and carry boxes of copy paper up to 50lbs, stand for long periods, and be physically able to perform medium to heavy physical labor.
LOCATION PAY:
The hiring rate will be the sum of the statutory hiring rate for CSEA Grade 9 ($42,641) and the Downstate Adjustment ($4,000). The job rate will be the sum of the statutory job rate ($52,413) and the Downstate Adjustment ($4,000).
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
The CSEA contracts allow for salary protection for seasonal / hourly employees who are appointed to permanent graded positions with lower hiring rates under certain circumstances. We encourage OPRHP seasonal / hourly applicants to check in with your Regional Business Office Administrator to inquire about the potential impact on your salary. As a permanent graded employee, you will be eligible for regular salary / performance advances (i.e. salary increases).
