Job Specifics

Duties Description Assist with biological surveys using various types of equipment to obtain samples of fish, water etc.; record basic data from field samples, including identification of fish and measurements taken on samples; conduct user surveys and compile, summarize, prepare, and proof resulting data; age fish via different samples; construct and repair habitat improvement structures; be aware of common construction methods including electrical and plumbing; distribute supplies and materials; assist with the development of brochures. Equipment maintenance including: boats, trailers, survey equipment and gear. Inspect and maintain angler access sites and DEC boat launches, post regulation signs, identify larger maintenance needs.

Minimum Qualifications 30 semester credit hours, including 12 semester credit hours in fisheries; marine resources or wildlife management; mariculture; marine biology; aquaculture; aquatic, marine or terrestrial ecology; zoology; marine technology; botany; limnology; hydrology; or oceanography.

Additional Comments This is a hourly appointment currently funded through 11/30/2026, with a likelihood of continuing beyond that date. Program needs and funding will determine actual termination date.

Must have a valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position.
Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain.
Must be able to work in remote areas.
Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions.
Weekends and holidays may be required.
Must be able to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds.
Must have certification to operate motorized boats or personal watercrafts at time of appointment.
