Job Specifics
Duties Description The New York State Education Department’s (NYSED) Office of Performance Improvement and Management Services is seeking candidates for a Cleaner position in the Office of Facilities and Business Services. This position will be deployed at the NYSED Cultural Education Center. Duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Performs a variety of routine manual tasks requiring light, medium and heavy physical effort in cleaning and caring for assigned areas in the Cultural Education Center;
• Collects and empties trash and recycling in accordance with cleaning schedules; cleans and/or removes hazardous or misplaced items, waste, and spills; and disposes, transports, or places such in appropriate receptacles and locations, following proper cleaning procedures;
• Cleans and scrubs all areas of lavatories and locker rooms, such as sinks, urinals, toilets, showers, drains, tile floors, and locker room common areas;
• Washes floors, corridors, stairs and stairwells, walls, partitions, and windows using mops, brushes, detergents, and other cleaning devices;
• Assembles cleaning carts to conform to assigned cleaning duties and prepares, mixes, and dilutes cleaning solutions in accordance with manufacturer directions;
• Vacuums, strips and waxes floors, and shampoos carpets, using manual or mechanical equipment;
• Replaces light bulbs, and dusts or washes light fixtures, including in high places, such as ceilings, using ladders, other appropriate equipment, and tools;
• Polishes wood and metal surfaces, fixtures, furniture, and equipment;
• Replaces, cleans, and/or hangs building fixtures and decorative items, such as curtains, blinds, and pictures;
• Moves, and arranges furniture and equipment in connection with cleaning tasks or in preparation for meetings, events, and other activities;
• Monitors cleaning supplies and equipment, and notifies supervisor of supply levels, equipment malfunction, and/or maintenance issues noted during cleaning; and
• Cleans and sanitizes assigned areas and covers other high-need areas, as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Candidates must be physically able to perform the tasks of the position, understand, and carry out written and oral instructions.
Additional Comments . CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
This will be a permanent appointment. Promotions and transfers may change appointees’ negotiating unit. Candidates should be aware that changes in negotiating units may affect their salary, insurance, and other benefits
This position leads to a maximum salary of $42,565 (pro-rated for 50%) based on annual performance advances. For new State employees appointed to graded positions, the annual salary is the hiring rate (beginning of the salary range) of the position. Promotion salaries are calculated by the NYS Office of the State Comptroller in accordance with NYS Civil Service Law, OSC Payroll rules and regulations and negotiated union contracts.
