Job Specifics

Duties Description Under the general supervision of higher-level personnel, the incumbent may perform journey-level work in multiple trades, such as carpentry, electrical, plumbing, masonry, painting, and motor equipment repair as required to maintain, repair, and improve buildings, facilities, and equipment. Duties may include both skilled and semi-skilled tasks, ensuring operational efficiency and adherence to safety standards.

Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Repair and maintain passenger vehicles, pickup trucks, utility terrain vehicles (UTVs), and heavy equipment including backhoes, tractors, skid steer loaders, and auxiliary electric and hydraulic equipment attachments.
• Repair and perform preventive maintenance on various groundskeeping maintenance equipment and small engine equipment including rotary and flail mowing equipment and two-cycle small equipment.
• Conduct thorough inspections to meet the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles certification standards, and maintain detailed records of all inspections and repairs.
• Operate snowplows, tractors and other heavy equipment and implements.
• May assist in skilled and semi-skilled tasks such as welding and fabricating.
• Assist with tree removal/pruning operations that will require the operation of chippers, stump grinders and lift equipment as needed.
• Assign, supervise, review, train and evaluate seasonal staff.
• May supervise additional subordinate staff or assist with training.
• May perform medium to heavy manual labor as part of daily tasks.
• Collaborate with other staff, contractors, and vendors to complete work efficiently.
• Complete work orders, track materials used, and document progress in maintenance systems.
• The incumbent will also be expected to be deployed to perform work during emergency events as directed by the State Emergency Management Operations Center and/or NYS OPRHP management.

Minimum Qualifications Non-competitive: four years of full-time experience in a trade under a skilled
tradesperson which would provide training equivalent to that given in a training,
apprenticeship, or equivalent program; or an equivalent combination of experience and
training gained by completion of technical courses in skilled trades at a school, institute,
or branch of the Armed Services.

When required to operate motor vehicles, candidates must possess a valid driver's license appropriate for the type of vehicle
to be operated.

*If verifiable, we will accept and prorate appropriate part-time and volunteer experience.

Additional Comments OPERATING NEEDS:
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment.
• Must be available to work a variable schedule that includes weekends, holidays and/or evening shifts.
• Must possess a valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) that allows the candidate to legally operate commercial vehicles in New York State or obtain one within the probationary period at their own expense and maintain it as a term and condition of employment.***
• Must possess certification from the Department of Motor Vehicles to conduct NYS inspections or obtain the certification within the probationary period and maintain it as a term and condition of employment.
• Must be proficient in the use of hand tools, portable power tools, shop equipment, and measuring and testing instruments.
• Must have the ability to supervise and train others.
• Must have the physical ability to carry tools and materials considerable distances to work sites inaccessible by vehicle.
• Must be able to perform medium to heavy physical labor.
• Must have the ability to operate a chainsaw and must complete OPRHP sawyer training or equivalent within the probationary period and maintain it as a term and condition of employment. This training will be provided by OPRHP.

***Under the provisions of the Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act (1991), this position has been designated Safety Sensitive. The candidate is required to participate in pre-employment, random and post-accident drug and alcohol testing.
