Job Specifics
Duties Description The Broadcast Technology team at the Digital and Media Services Center is seeking an adaptable, skilled Multimedia Production Technician to serve as a Technical Operations Specialist. Beyond standard television production, this position requires advanced technical knowledge of custom infrastructure, signal management, and complex system architecture. We need someone with an analytical mindset who excels at troubleshooting, stays current on emerging technologies, and collaborates effectively with both engineering and production departments.
Typical duties include, but are not limited to:
? Technical Monitoring: Monitor and evaluate overall transmission health, stream integrity, signal flows, and advanced video and audio parameters across all distribution pipelines.
? Content Ingestion: Manage ingestion and technical preparation of complex media assets from various sources, including live camera feeds, remote IP links, and satellite feeds.
? Quality Control: Conduct thorough technical pre-checks on all assets and feeds to identify and fix audio/video sync errors, artifacting, and signal anomalies.
? Live Event Support: Deliver dedicated technical support during live broadcasts.
? Troubleshooting & Escalation: Act as the primary technical quality control contact during events, with the well-honed instincts to escalate support levels quickly.
? Production & Studio Operations: Operate studio cameras, manage audio mixing boards, and handle technical directing duties.
In summary, the Technical Operations Specialist connects live production with systems engineering, requiring strong multitasking skills, deep technical expertise, and flawless execution in a dynamic broadcast setting.
Note: Requires scheduling flexibility, including weekend standby and evening shifts.
Minimum Qualifications Four years of experience* as a news videographer, studio camera operator, art director, copywriter, graphic designer, account executive, video editor, web designer, or similar position at a national network, local network television affiliate, cable news, commercial media production facility, or marketing or communications agency.
*Substitutions: College study in a related field may substitute for up to three years of experience as listed above with 30 credit hours equaling one year of experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience and familiarity with the following technical capabilities & systems knowledge:
o Satellite transmit and receive equipment
o Digital audio workflows (Dante preferred)
o IP transmission and reception infrastructure (LiveU preferred)
o Bonded cellular transmission hardware
o Streaming and closed-captioning encoders
o TOC production, routing, and recording hardware
o Adobe audio and video editing software
