Minimum Qualifications +Minimum Qualifications for Provisional Appointment:
1) Must be a qualified employee of NYS and have one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service as a Junior Engineer and must show proof of passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) licensing examination by the time of appointment. OR 2) Must have a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or mechanical engineering technology AND one year of engineering experience in the design and preparation of heating, ventilating, and air conditioning layouts for buildings AND must show proof of passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) licensing examination by the time of appointment.
Reassignment - Currently in the title and an employee of DEC

Reinstatement Eligible - Previously held the title on a permanent competitive basis or held a title as indicated under the transfer eligible section on a permanent competitive basis.

Open competitive minimum qualifications (provided for 55b/c candidates and 70.4 transfer eligibles):
Either: A bachelor’s or higher level degree in mechanical engineering or mechanical engineering technology, AND one year of engineering experience in the design and preparation of heating, ventilating and air conditioning layouts for buildings and must show proof of passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) by time of appointment.
Duties Description Prepare the technical portions of contractual bidding documents for the design and installation of building heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) and mechanical systems. In general, these projects involve the design and evaluation of existing HVAC and mechanical systems and new construction. You would prepare plans in AutoCAD, specifications, details, estimates and HVAC and mechanical designs for various state facilities, and may review consultant design documents to ensure compliance with current standards. You would evaluate heat transfer and recommend various systems for heating, cooling, boilers, air quality and ventilation. Other duties include performing studies for electrical energy conservation for existing and anticipated HVAC And mechanical projects, providing construction support to include checking shop drawings and equipment lists against drawings and specifications prepared by others, and answering questions from bidders, contractors and field staff. At project completion, coordinate with the project inspector and contractor in the preparation of AsBuilt drawings in AutoCAD
Additional Comments Must have valid driver's license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position. Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain and work in remote areas and adverse weather conditions. Travel, overtime, and overnight travel may be required. Must be available for emergency response.
