Bachelor’s degree or higher in geological services, which includes engineering geology, geophysics, geochemistry, earth science, or environmental geoscience.

OR

A Bachelor’s degree in a related science or engineering degree and a Master’s or Doctoral degree in geological sciences.

Reinstatement Eligible - Previously held the title on a permanent competitive basis or held a title as indicated under the transfer eligible section on a permanent competitive basis.

NOTE: In accordance with Chapter 475 of the Laws of 2014, all professional geologists in New York State must obtain licensure under Title VIII of the Education Law; based on this, if appointed to this position you will be required to obtain your Fundamentals of Geology within two years of your permanent appointment date.

Duties Description Responsibilities include interaction with in-house Professional Engineer oversight from the Section Chief with remedial parties, managing all aspects of the remedial program for sites (work plan development, investigation, design, remediation and site management phases of projects) including the review and evaluation of work plans, remedial investigation reports, feasibility studies, design reports, construction plans and specifications, final engineering/project completion reports, and site management plans to ensure conformance with current professional engineering standards, Department regulations, standards, guidance and policies.
These projects will involve soliciting, coordinating and resolving comments from other Department units; and local, state and federal agencies. In some instances, the above work will be done in-house (i.e., documents will be prepared by the PM) with in-house Professional Engineer oversight from the Section Chief. Provide technical direction, oversight and management for standby consultants on State funded projects; approve projects budgets and manage budget compliance during project implementation. Prepare and respond to written correspondence, make public presentations, and interact directly with the public and interested community groups in relation to these projects. Some field work may involve working around heavy machinery such as drill rigs and construction equipment. This position is located within Remedial Bureau E.

Additional Comments Must have valid driver's license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position. Use of personal protection equipment, including respirator, will be required. Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain and/or work in remote areas. Travel, overtime, and overnight travel may be required. Must successfully complete (or have completed) the 40-hour OSHA 1910.120 training course and all other required training. Must complete an annual Health and Safety Program including medical monitoring, fit testing, and 40 (or 8) hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification.
