Duties Description As a Chief of Forensic Unit 1, you would be responsible for planning, supervising, and evaluating the implementation and provision of mental health services to a diverse population in New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision facilities. You would have program and administrative responsibility for an interdisciplinary treatment team providing a comprehensive program tailored to meet the individual needs of patients. You would be responsible for negotiating and coordinating your unit’s activities with those of both Central New York Psychiatric Center and the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision.
Minimum Qualifications Candidates must be reachable on the current Civil Service eligible list for the title;
OR
Transfer Opportunity - Candidates must have permanent status as a Chief of Forensic Unit 1 and be eligible for lateral transfer;
OR
be eligible to transfer via Section 70.1 or 52.6 of the Civil Service Law by having at least one year of permanent service in a qualifying title.

Provisional Opportunity:
Candidates who meet the following open-competitive qualifications may be provisionally appointed:
Either 1. a bachelor’s degree and five years of professional experience providing treatment in a mental health setting (including a psychiatric hospital, unit, or ward; an inpatient treatment facility; a community based clinic; or a residential setting that serves patients whose primary diagnosis is mental illness), an alcohol or substance abuse treatment facility, or criminal justice setting where inmate/patients have mental health issues (including correctional services, juvenile justice, or parole). Two of the five years must have included the clinical supervision* of staff;
Or 2. a master’s degree and four years of professional experience providing treatment in a mental health setting (including a psychiatric hospital, unit, or ward; an inpatient treatment facility; a community based clinic; or a residential setting that serves patients whose primary diagnosis is mental illness), an alcohol or substance abuse treatment facility, or criminal justice setting where inmate/patients have mental health issues (including correctional services, juvenile justice, or parole). Two of the four years must have included the clinical supervision* of staff.
*Clinical supervision is defined as the supervision and oversight of one or more credentialed clinical disciplines such as nursing, social work, rehabilitation counseling, recreation therapy, physical therapy, occupational therapy, psychology, and special education.

This position is at Central New York Psychiatric Center’s Hudson River Field House located on the grounds of Hudson River Correctional Facility in Dutchess County.
