Minimum Qualifications -Promotion: Three years of permanent service as a University Police Officer 1

Duties Description The successful candidate will be responsible for, but not limited to: scheduling and assigning University Police Officer 1s to mobile and foot patrol and dispatch/desk post assignments in order to effectively and efficiently utilize staff and insure adequate security coverage; preparing and maintaining schedule rosters of uniformed and civilian staff, as well as Campus Public Safety Officers; monitoring and altering schedules to provide ample coverage for security services including the review and approval of leave requests; briefing departmental personnel in preparation for shift assignments to ensure they are informed of current assignments, security problems, and any changes in policies and procedures. Duties will also include acknowledgement of good and superior performance; offering constructive criticism and suggesting ways to improve performance; and listening attentively to questions and problems and responding with workable solutions and answers. The regular inspection the persons and equipment of University Police personnel for compliance with University regulations and directing subordinates to make necessary corrections; reviewing all reports and ensuring deficiencies are corrected including that any necessary follow up occurs will also be necessary. Conferring and assisting on scene security personnel and directing University Police Officer 1s at the scene of an incident for appropriate action will also be required. Additional Comments While performing many of the same range of duties as a University Police Officer 1, this position will also function as a shift supervisor of the police force on duty. Direct supervisory duties may include University Police Officer 1s, Campus Public Safety Officers, Security Assistants, Student Assistants, and support staff as assigned. The University Police Department (UPD) provides law enforcement services to protect the safety and well-being of students, faculty, staff, and visitors to the University. We are part of the Enrollment and Student Success division which supports a student’s entire collegiate experience from the point of admission through to graduation. We partner with students, faculty and staff to provide a network of opportunities and services that lead to student success.
