Duties Description Reporting to the Director of Career Planning & Development, the Employer Relations Specialist is responsible for advancing employer development and engagement strategies to measurably impact the outcomes of student hiring in post-graduation employment. This individual will help create a strong vision for employer development and engagement, with a focus on developing and cultivating employer relationships that lead to hiring opportunities for all SUNY Old Westbury students.

This is a twelve (12) month, part-time position requiring a flexible schedule of twenty (20) hours per week. This role will require local travel and it is understood that your professional assignment may include evening and/or weekend obligations.

Duties:

Employer Engagement

Engage employers in defining workforce needs, identifying hiring challenges and opportunities, and specifying skills and proficiencies needed to fill available roles.
Leads strategy for recruitment programs necessary to expand employment opportunities for students ensuring a mutually beneficial experience.
Consults and effectively collaborates regularly with staff to share industry and employer insights to create/implement services and programs that anticipate or respond to trends in the preparation, recruiting and hiring of students.

Relationship Development/Management

Develops and maintains employer relationships; Coordinates and implements outreach to active employers.
Coordinates with employer partners to conduct on-campus employer focused events, info sessions, on-campus interviews, etc.
Educates employers on best ways to connect with students and on tools available to employers for student interaction and evaluation.
Collects feedback from employers and students on employer events to ensure quality delivery and mutual satisfaction. Use feedback to make necessary adjustments.
Interprets and communicates employer needs to Old Westbury students, faculty, and administration.
Builds core company list using data informed approach to identify organizations that have talent needs in line with students interests.
Participate in local, state, regional and national organizations to increase partnerships, internship and employment opportunities.
Help to implement Old Westbury's strategy to build and sustain industry and talent partnerships with the goals of advancing the economic mobility of students and prosperity of businesses.

Administrative and Student Facing Duties

Provides scaled/group student advising/coaching in the area of job search strategy, industry insights, interview preparation, etc.
Creates and manages industry and employer specific job search and interview preparation events and workshops.
Provide direct support to students, including information and guidance about requirements of specific occupations; job market trends; proper work habits; and techniques for competing for jobs, including appropriate dress, preparing resumes, and interviewing strategies.
Provide assistance and support in setting Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs), performance goals and other types of assessments.
Create and evaluate graduate and employer outreach goals informed by data sources, including First Destination Survey.
Maintains, posts, and/or distributes information concerning full and part-time jobs, programs and events, via Handshake.
Keeps detailed and accurate monthly reports and student appointment information.
Serves on campus committees as appropriate and represents the college to off-campus groups, businesses, and agencies.

Minimum Qualifications Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree.
3+ years of experience in employer relations, career consulting, or related field.
Ability to balance the needs of multiple stakeholders, including employers, students, staff, and faculty.
Ability to work with individuals and groups and prepare and deliver presentations.
Must be proficient with technology (MS Office Suite) and interested in identifying and adopting technology to reach and connect with target audiences.
Professional experience in resume writing, interviewing coaching, career counseling, career coaching, life coaching, or similar.
Cultural competence and ability to communicate effectively with diverse constituencies.
Excellent interpersonal communication skills and report presentation skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Strong project management skills.
Strong analytical skills, with attention to detail and the ability to thrive in a data-oriented, analytical environment.
Commitment to the success of the students and the University and meeting and sustaining enrollment goals.
Ability to maintain a high degree of professionalism.
Ability to build and maintain effective customer relationships.
Ability to represent the university with external constituents.
Must have and maintain the appropriate valid NYS driver's license and have a motor vehicle record which is free from major violations or a pattern of repeat violations.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master's degree.
Experience with Handshake or comparable software platform.
