Duties Description Duties will Include but not limited to the below:
Reports directly to the Director of the Bureau of Labor Relations. Will handle high profile employee disciplinary matters for misconduct and/or incompetency and employee fitness for duty matters up to, and including, the time of arbitration/hearing, as well as drafting written arguments, briefs, and other legal documentation with respect to the arbitrations/hearings. Also, will need to assist in training and/or assisting other Labor Relations staff in preparing disciplinary cases for presentation at arbitration.
Will Act as a confidential advisor to the Executive Team on matters relating to labor relations; will assist in developing necessary policy and will advise on all matters requesting response relating to labor relations.
Will liaison county district attorney offices on department disciplinary matters that may result in criminal charges and prosecution.
As a Policy assistant in the area of labor relations, will review current labor relations activities and policies; will attempt to determine underlying reasons for problems that may exist and will assist the Executive team in developing long range policy and planning as relates not only specifically to labor relations activities but as it relates to developing preventative solutions aimed at reducing substantially the number of formalized labor relations activities that occur within the Department. In performing this role, will work directly with other administrators in developing new and creative solutions, policies and procedures essential to the appropriate utilization of staff on an agency-wide basis. Will assist the Executive Team in determination, not only labor management policy and procedures, but in development of an integrated and coordinated staffing program for the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision.
Minimum Qualifications Must have been admitted to the New York State Bar and have four years of experience in the practice of law subsequent to admission to the Bar.
