Duties Description This position will be responsible for the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, testing and calibration of mechanical and electrical equipment providing heat, hot water, ventilation, air conditioning and electrical distribution in a safe and efficient manner. The successful candidate will also be expected to make appropriate recommendations on major overhauls and replacement of equipment, as well as identify, recommend, and develop energy conservation projects. The ordering of necessary parts for all jobs related to heating and ventilation is also included. This position is also expected to effectively train Plant Utilities Assistants (PUAs) while on shift and in field and acts as watch engineer and shift leader when required. The successful candidate may also supervise contractors in an emergency or project situation and may be required to assume responsibility for operations of the overall physical plant at times. Minimum Qualifications Must be eligible for permanent appointment to this title pursuant to civil service law.
Competitive (NON-NY HELPS):
Transfer Eligibility Requirement: You must have a current permanent appointment with a minimum of 1 year of service in a position of the same title or transferable title.
Non-competitive (NY HELPS):
To be eligible for a NY HELPS appointment, the candidate must meet the minimum qualifications listed on the Civil service exam announcements.

Additional Comments The Central Heating Plant maintains all heating, air conditioning, hot water, ventilation, and refrigeration services as well as overseeing the proper functioning of all elevators on campus. We also answer after hours calls and provide service, as needed, and are a 24/7 operation. We are a part of the Administration & Finance division which provides essential services to our campus, local, state, federal and international customers. We are responsible for human, physical, financial and technical resources. As professionals, we navigate systems in a collaborative and sensitive way to assist the University in achieving its educational mission. The work schedule for this position will be discussed during the interview process and determined at time of offer.
