Salary RangeFrom $85000 to $105000 Annually
Duties Description The Office of Counsel to the Majority acts as in-house counsel to the New York State Assembly majority conference, which includes advising Assembly Members and Assembly employees on legal matters pertaining to their respective positions, as well as providing overall legal support to the institution.
Under the direction of the Counsel to the Majority, the duties of the deputy Counsel include but are not limited to the following:
-Analyze, interpret, and advise as to legislative powers and duties;
-Review legislation for various constitutional requirements and/or impact on the Assembly;
- Assist with litigation;
-Perform legal research on matters pertaining to the Assembly;
-Provide legal support and advice to Assembly members and employees;
-Act as the parliamentarian for Assembly session proceedings;
-Work with and among other offices within the Assembly and State government to effectuate the duties of the office;
-Perform any other duties as many be necessary.
Minimum Qualifications Candidates must possess a law degree from an accredited law school; be admitted to and in good standing with the NYS Bar; have at least three years of relevant experience and be able to demonstrate strong legal research and analysis.
Additional Comments Familiarity or experience with one or more of the following:
-NYS Government;
-Litigation in state court, federal court, and/or administrative proceedings;
-Employment law;
-Public Officers Law (FOIL, Open Meetings Law, ethic laws)
