Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Reachable on the current Civil Service List for Mental Hygiene Staff Developmental Specialist 2, OR; 2. Permanent service as a Mental Hygiene Staff Developmental Specialist 2, OR; 3. Eligible via Section 70.1 transfer to a Mental Hygiene Staff Developmental Specialist 2, OR; 4. Non-Competitive Appointment via NYS HELPS may be considered.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Ability to function as a member of the Talent Development and Training Department in a professional and para-professional manner.
• Ability to communicate in a thorough, concise, accurate and professional manner both verbally and in writing.
• Training and public speaking experience.
• Possess an acceptable attendance record as specified in the time and attendance policy.
• Possess an acceptable work record (E-File). NYS HELPS Minimum Qualifications:
• A bachelor’s degree in a human services field AND
• One year of experience in the direct preparation and delivery of classroom training in a mental hygiene setting.

Duties Description PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Plan and conduct training programs designed to improve the knowledge and abilities of those
responsible for the care, treatment, and well-being of Persons with Developmental Disabilities
• Provide training and instruction in designated topic areas as determined by the Director of
Talent Development and Training including but not limited to: New Employee Orientation,
PROMOTE, CPR and First AID, Vehicle Safety Training, Overview of Developmental
Disabilities, Individuals Rights and Responsibilities, New User Computer Training
• Review and evaluate training courses, participant reactions sheets and trainee evaluations for
effectiveness and suggest or determine the need for changes.
• Evaluate and recommend new training programs to the Director of Talent Development and
Training.
• Maintain training records and provide reports to the Director of Talent Development and Training in accordance with OPWDD and facility standards.
• Communicate with supervisors, administrators, and clinicians to help identify training needs and bring those needs to the attention of the Director of Talent Development and Training.
• Participate in the development of applications for Grant funding and assist with Grant projects.
• Serve on Traineeship Council and other committees as determined by the Director of Talent Development and Training.
• Provide audio-visual support to Operations and Regional Office staff for trainings, meetings and video conferences.
• Ability to function as a member of the Talent Development and Training Department in a professional and para-professional manner.
• Ability to communicate in a thorough, concise, accurate and professional manner both verbally and in writing.
• Training and public speaking experience.
• Possess an acceptable attendance record as specified in the time and attendance policy.
• Possess an acceptable work record (E-File).
• Ability to travel to support training throughout the Agency.

Additional Comments NY HELPS! This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS). HELPS Program titles may be filled via a non-competitive appointment. This means that you do not need to take an exam to qualify, but you do need to meet the minimum qualifications of the title.
