Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must be currently enrolled in a full-time bachelor's or master's degree program in Computer Science, Business Information Systems or Computer Information Systems or closely related major with at least one semester remaining to complete all degree requirements following the internship.

Preferred Qualifications

Possess fundamental knowledge of networking, server/desktop infrastructure, or related skills; other experience may be considered.
Strong problem-solving abilities with the ability to use sound judgment.
Proficient with basic computer and hardware troubleshooting skills.

Duties Description Position Summary

The purpose of the IT-Technical Services Department (ITTS) is to ensure the security, availability, and performance of Technology infrastructure to assist NYSTRS in performing its mission to provide our members a secure pension. This includes the technical infrastructure used by the System in its Albany and Business Continuity locations including, but not limited to, management of basic information technology services, virtual server infrastructure maintenance and provisioning, network storage planning and provisioning, backup and recovery, email administration, network maintenance and planning, video and telecommunications infrastructure maintenance, and database maintenance and design services. Additionally, all customer support and security administration functions are performed in this department including, but not limited to, IT service management, IT asset management, desktop management, operations and job scheduling, mobile device and audio-visual support, and security management services for the organization.

The Information Technology Intern position is an excellent opportunity for someone to gain hands-on experience and develop solid IT skills by working on varied projects throughout the IT-Technical Services Department.

Learn about NYSTRS technology infrastructure and how it is used to support the organization.
Support modern technical infrastructure while helping serve our customers’ needs.
Work as part of a team of technicians to solve problems, troubleshoot and determine solutions.
Other IT projects as relevant.
