Minimum Qualifications New York State Psychiatric Institute (NYSPI) is currently recruiting a Psychiatrist 2 to serve as an Attending Psychiatrist who will provide supervisory and clinical oversight of its Psychiatric Institute Residents’ Clinic (PIRC). PIRC is a community no-fee clinic that serves approximately 400 patients and is the primary outpatient training site for the Columbia Department of Psychiatry’s residency training program.

NYSPI is one of the foremost mental health research facilities in the country with a mission to provide culturally sensitive, recovery oriented and evidence based psychiatric services to adults in Northern Manhattan. Three years’ experience post-adult residency training preferred.

Candidates from within State Service can be considered for a competitive class appointment if they have one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service in a title eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.

Duties Description The Psychiatrist 2/Attending Psychiatrist at PIRC will:
• Train and supervise 20-25 residents in safe and appropriate administration of psychiatric care
• Provide primary psychiatric care to patients
• Respond to urgent or emergency clinical issues
• Collaborate with other health care professionals to achieve treatment goals and ensure continuity and quality of care
• Assess and refer individuals for admission, transfer, discharge, and further treatment
• Review and maintain medical records and documentation consistent with facility, agency, State, and federal guidelines
• Serve as members of a multidisciplinary treatment team

1. If appointed you may be required to become an enrolled Medicare provider; obtain and provide to your employer a National Provider Identifier (NPI) number issued by the National Plan and Provider Enumeration System (NPPES); and otherwise actively participate to the degree necessary to allow for your services to be billed through Medicare and Medicaid. If you are appointed and you lose the ability to bill through Medicare and Medicaid, you may be terminated from your employment.

3. License and Certification: Loss of license or limited permit to practice medicine in New York State or board certification, if required, may result in removal from your position.
