Minimum Qualifications One year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service in this title or a title eligible for 70.1 transfer. This title is part of the NY HELPS program.
To qualify through NY HELPS as a Vocational Instructor 1: Four years of appropriate trade experience and a High School Diploma or equivalency, or an Associate's degree in a related trade area and two years of appropriate trade experience, or a Bachelor's degree in any area and one year of related trade experience.
To qualify through NY HELPS as a Vocational Instructor 2: Four years of appropriate trade experience and a minimum of nine college credits in pedagogy core coursework. Three of these credits must be in human development and learning, teaching students with disabilities and special health care needs, and curriculum and instruction, or an Associate's degree in a related trade area including nine college credits in pedagogy core coursework as stated above, or a Bachelor's degree in any area with nine credits as stated above.
To qualify for a Vocational Instructor 3: You must have initial certification as a teacher of trade subjects in the appropriate specialty issued by NYS Education Department.
To qualify for Vocational Instructor 4: You must have professional certification as a teacher of trade subjects in the appropriate specialty issued by NYS Education Department.
Duties Description Instructor will provide successful training in the building maintenance area for the necessary skills needed for outside employment upon release.
