Minimum Qualifications For permanent, competitive appointment:
• Reachable on current Civil Service eligible list for this title; OR
• One year of permanent, competitive class service as an Information Technology Specialist 3; OR
• One year of permanent, competitive class service in a title eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 or Section 52.6 of the Civil Service Law. Eligible titles include but aren’t limited to: Information Technology Specialist 3 Data Communications, Information Technology Specialist 3 Database, Information Technology Specialist 3 Systems Programming.



For appointment via NY HELPS* Program:
• One year of permanent, competitive class service as an Information Technology Specialist 2 at NYSIF; OR
• Five years of professional experience in the following computer related areas: network, server, storage, and systems management; telecommunications, IT customer support and training; computer installation, diagnosis, and repair; technical writing; computer internet/intranet development, design, and maintenance; information technology project management; design and development of geographic information systems or computer aided drafting applications; computer programming; business/systems analysis; program design; or program testing; OR
• Bachelor’s or higher-level degree including or supplemented by 15 semester credit hours in computer science AND two years of experience as described above; OR
• Bachelor’s or higher-level degree in any field AND three years of experience as described above; OR
• Associate’s degree with 15 semester credit hours in a computer science field AND four years of experience as described above

Duties Description • Provide technical support for the Storage Area Network including Replication and work with vendors to resolve service support cases.
• Monitor and review Storage Management reports and logs. Knowledge to create and edit scripts for efficiency measures of reporting and logging.
• Maintain hardware/software compliance to meet with vendors’ support requirements. Provide research and identify the guidelines of the technological features that may impact our environment.
• Contribute to technical storage planning by having a broad knowledge of vendor products, roadmaps and industry trends to match emerging technologies to expected new technology and plan for its purchase and integration.
• Fulfill user requests, resolve incidents, and meet operational commitments.
• Prioritize and plan work activities through documentation, design diagrams, and schedule or organize project tasks.
• Developing procedures, standards, workflows, and internal controls for functions.
• Completes duties and assignments and work diligently to meet goals in a timely and professional manner.
• Travel occasionally as needed to support remote sites at the Albany and Syracuse Datacenter.

Additional Comments For new State employees appointed to graded positions, the annual salary is the hiring rate (beginning of the Salary Range) of the position. Promotion salaries are calculated by the NYS Office of the State Comptroller in accordance with NYS Civil Service Law, OSC Payroll rules and regulations and negotiated union contracts.

This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS).

For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title may be filled via a non-competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply.

At a future date, it is expected employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to compete in an examination. Employees will then be afforded with all the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State. While serving permanently in a NY HELPS title, employees may take part in any promotion examination for which they are qualified.
