Minimum Qualifications One year of experience in environmental education programs; or one year of college study with specialization in natural science, natural resources, or environmental education.
Duties Description The Division of Lands and Forests is looking for a seasonal Environmental Education Assistant to support the Division’s outreach program. The Division’s mission is to care for and enhance New York's lands, forests, and natural resources for the benefit of all, through the care, custody, and control of state-owned lands and conservation easements, and the promotion, use, and protection of natural resources. The person in this position will be a member of a team that provides outreach and education support to the Division’s programs and will focus on topics involving invasive species, forest health, sustainable forestry, open space conservation, and outdoor recreation.
The tasks for this position include:
-Responding to public requests for information, including answering calls to an information line, responding to questions that are sent through social media and emails, and working with program staff to develop other correspondence.
-Assisting with development of outreach materials, including kiosks, print products, public newsletters, and social media.
-Maintaining an inventory of outreach materials
-Mailing outreach materials
-Tracking outreach metrics and project timelines

-Excellent written and verbal communication skills
-Ability to use Microsoft Office programs
-Good organization skills
-Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
-Detail oriented
-Experience communicating with the public and creating outreach materials
Additional Comments Telecommuting may be available, will be discussed at interview.
This is a seasonal, hourly appointment with an anticipated end date of 3/31/2025. Program needs and funding will determine actual termination date.
Must have a valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position.
Travel may be required.
Overnight travel may be required.
