Minimum Qualifications One year of service as a Facility Operations Assistant 1 or Motor Vehicle Operator; OR, two years of full-time, verifiable experience in custodial, grounds, or maintenance operation or assisting in a journey-level trade. When required to operate motor vehicles, incumbents must possess a valid New York State driver's license appropriate for the type of vehicle being operated.
Duties Description This position will be required to operate and transport of a variety of self-propelled heavy equipment; possess a basic knowledge of the Vehicle and Traffic Law as it applies to the safe and legal operation of assigned equipment; basic knowledge of the routine repair and maintenance work needed for equipment; use and operate a variety of hand and power tools; operate assigned machine in a safe and effective manner; understand and follow simple oral and written instructions; perform routine repairs and maintenance on equipment; perform medium to heavy physical labor based on priorities set by others; orally instruct crew members in the activities and tasks to be performed and answer questions concerning work procedures; provide and explain simple written instructions and ensure adherence to instructions, guidelines, and schedules; keep written records of work performed and materials and labor used; will be required to operate and/or transport self-propelled machinery such as cars, trucks, construction equipment and riding mowers; haul construction materials, and may operate non-self-propelled machines.
Additional Comments This is a hourly appointment currently funded through 3/31/2025, with a likelihood of continuing beyond that date. Program needs and funding will determine actual termination date.
Actual work schedule, duties and travel requirements may vary and will be discussed at the interview.
Must have a valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position.
Use of personal protection equipment, including a respirator, will be required.
Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain.
Must be able to work in remote areas.
Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions.
Travel may be required.
Must be able to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds.
