service as an Environmental Engineer 2 Civil, Senior Sanitary
Engineer. Additional qualifications may be required.

Eligible for transfer under Section 70.4: Must meet the open
competitive minimum qualifications below;
Open competitive minimum qualifications (provided for 70.4
transfer eligibles and NYHELPS):
a New York State Professional Engineer's
license and current registration AND one year of engineering
experience in sanitary, public health or environmental
engineering.
If there is a viable promotion examination eligible list (three
acceptors) for this position, candidates who qualify based on
70.4 transfer or under the 55-b/55-c options cannot be
considered.
Candidates who are not eligible for transfer or reinstatement
must meet the promotion qualifications below and receive, or have received, a passing score on the online Civil Service examination for the Professional Engineer 1 (Environmental) https://www.cs.ny.gov/engineering/prom/ (for promotional candidates). Duties Description These Professional Engineer 1 positions are in various sections within the Division of Environmental Remediation. They will serve as Senior Project Managers for multiple Brownfield Cleanup Program, State Superfund, and Petroleum Remediation sites. This position requires a person technically proficient and knowledgeable in the various remedial programs, capable of juggling multiple priorities on several fast-paced and/or complex projects. Position requires close coordination with all involved agencies, divisions, stakeholders, consultants and contractors, etc. Responsibilities include review, oversight and management of all phases of remedial work, including work plans, remedial investigation reports, feasibility studies, design reports, construction plans and specifications, site management plans and final engineering reports, as well as field oversight, to ensure conformance with current NYSDEC regulations, guidance and policies, as well as professional engineering standards. Other responsibilities include development and management of work assignments and budgets, preparation of responses to written correspondence, public presentations, and interaction with the public and community groups in relation to these projects. Supervision of lower-level technical staff may be required. Required functions are to be performed with a high degree of independence. On occasion serve as section supervisor in the absence of the permanent supervisor. Additional duties to be discussed during interview.
Additional Comments Must have a valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position.
Use of personal protection equipment, including a respirator, will be required.
Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain.
Must be able to work in remote areas.
Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions.
Travel may be required.
Overtime may be required.
Must complete an annual Health and Safety Program including medical monitoring, fit testing, and 40 (or 8) hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification.
Telecommuting may be available, will be discussed at interview.

For new State employees appointed to graded positions, the annual salary is the hiring rate (beginning of the Salary Range) of the position. Promotion salaries are calculated by the NYS Office of the State Comptroller in accordance with NYS Civil Service Law, OSC Payroll rules and regulations and negotiated union contracts.
